Baby it’s cold outside. Part 2.

Ah Fall, my favorite time of the year. Don’t get me wrong, I love Summer. I love the sun and tanning on the beach and having sun kissed skin, however there is something about Fall. Whether it’s the crisp air, or beautiful colors of the leaves, Fall is a season that awakens many people. My favorite aspect of this season though is its fashion. High boots, scarves, earth tones, warmer coats and so much more, Fall offers a variety in a wardrobe that allows you to layer more items without being completely covered like in the Winter time. On Monday we took a look at Jessica Day’s (played by Zooey Deschanel) from New Girl coat choices because well, needless to say, they’re awesome. From every color and style, she’s covered them all and all the while being comfortable she makes sure she looks chic as well. Let’s continue to take a look at my favorite coat choices made by Jess!

coat5-red-blue-plaid-coat

Last post I mentioned that one of my favorite color combinations is navy and red and this jacket proves exactly why.The 2 colors give off a rich look and I would just like to point out that this whole outfit is everything I love about Fall. The knee-high cognac colored boots with the comfy coat is a cozy look that works for many occasions!

coat 2-red with black buttons

Ever since the movie Love Actually it has been my dream to buy a red coat. There is something so feminine yet classic to the look and this particular coat with the big black buttons is something I would definitely purchase.

new girl navy coat

Navy coats are the best thing that happened to the coat world because it is the perfect alternative to the black coat. It is something different without standing out too much. I have something extremely similar with the same big collar and gold buttons.

Coat 1- blue coat

I am one of those weird people that loves a good lining. Obviously I want the coat itself to be beautiful, but when something has a good inside lining, it makes me even happier. If people can get a 5 second glimpse of the lining of my coat (if it’s nice) then i’m happy. This coat is no exception. To begin, the color and style of it is adorable. It’s collar is bow shaped when closed and therefore ultra-feminine. But what’s even greater is the polka dot lining. It has completely won me over!

coat 3-pink coat

If you know me then you know it is no secret how much I love the color pink. As much as I love it though, I have never owned a fuscia pink coat like this and I strongly believe that next year I will take the plunge and go for it! It’s vibrant and girly, and just brings in fun to an outfit.

coat 6-red chechered coat

This semi red coat with black and white sleeves is something we rarely see and I am not exactly sure why. It looks like a great sweater made into a beautiful coat. It’s casual without being boring and adds in a lot of personality into your look.

So now that you’ve seen all the different styles of Jessica Day’s coat selection, it is time to prep up for the season and buy yourself a coat! Don’t always go for the classic black coat, this is your chance to think outside the box and try something different. No matter what coat you decide to choose though, make sure it suits your personality and style for this is the first item people will notice of you!

Baby, it’s cold outside.

I just got back from a sunny vacation in California and upon my return I  realized one thing: Fall is officially here. It’s chilly and I find myself pulling out my warmer clothes and shoes. Although it is heartbreaking to say goodbye to summer (cue Summer Sadness from Lana Del Rey), Fall is my favorite season to shop for. The colors and styles are extremely appealing and there’s nothing like rich warm sweaters and beautiful earth tones. Other than boots, I would say shopping for Fall coats is one of my favorite aspects of the season. As said in previous posts, I absolutely love a good coat. It is one of the most important aspects of your wardrobe because unlike your other pieces of clothing, a coat is what someone sees first, and the most of. Choosing a coat should be a well thought out process, where you decide how would you want to be perceived by others around you. Do you want to look cute? Comfortable? Chic? Sporty? The options are endless. What is important is that you decide which coat suits you and your sense of style best.

New Girl is one of my favorite TV shows right now for a number of reasons. Whether it’s because of Jessica Day‘s (played by Zooey Deschanel) quirky personality, or Scmidt (played by Max Greenfield) and Nick Miller’s (played by Jake Johnson) hysterical stories, it has made my Tuesday nights my favorite TV night (sorry Thursdays). Jess is an optimistic, bubbly person who wants her personality to shine through her smile and most importantly, her wardrobe. I have no doubt I will have another post on Jessica’s actual outfits which consists of many adorable skirts and dresses, but for this week I wanted to focus on her coatsSince this is the season where I am thinking about being cozy and trying to look cute all at once, Jessica is the perfect inspiration for that! Her coats range from different colors and cuts but one thing is for sure, everyone can find something they like within her selection! So let’s take a look and see which one you prefer!

Picture-30

Jessica Day is no stranger to getting herself mixed up in tricky situations. Luckily for her, when her car broke down on this breezy Fall day she was sporting her cream coat. The color and weight of the jacet is ideal for those less chilly Fall days (and Spring).

 new-girl-red-navy-coat-gold-buttons

Navy and red is a great color combination and this sophisticated, “first-lady” type of coat proves exactly why. It oozes sophistication and the antique looking big gold button sets off a vintage tone. I would buy this in a heartbeat.

coat 7-burgandy coat

Keeping it classic and conservative, Jess opted for her burgundy coat with black detailing and buttons for this outing. This coat seems warmer due to its length and ideal for any occasion.

new-girl-teal-green-coat-305x580

Who said coats had to have a boring color? Here Jess is wearing one of her many vibrant coats. Without going over the top, this muted teal shows that a classic cut can be paired with a different color to avoid the typical black coat.

coat 9-funny coat

Not everyone would be able to pull off a pyjama with this eccentric looking jacket in a club (and frankly, neither did she), but noone can dispute the fact that she looked adorable. This light checkered jacket with a unique collar isn’t seen often but is feminine due to the way it falls and it’s 3/4 puffier sleeves.

coat 4-wool coat better pic

The pattern of this very cozzy looking coat gives off the casual yet preppy vibe. The big collar makes for a great statement and I would easily see myself using a jacket like this for every day purposes.

We shall continue on Wednesday to look through Jessica Day’s coat choices and hope it doesn’t get any colder outside until then!

Pretty Little Fashionista. Part 2.

thCAGUQP8O

Spencer Hastings (played by Troian Bellisario) may not be the shyest girl in Pretty Little Liars but her style is the perfect balance of subtle sophisticated upper class with comfort chic. Just because she is the brains of the group doesn’t mean her clothes are nothing to notice. She clearly uses her wits to figure out who is out to get her, as well as to choose a great wardrobe along the way. Let’s continue to take a look what other goodies she has in her closet!

d40fe55275edea969a85db16522a8247

I wouldn’t have necessarily paired this dress with this blazer but when I saw it on Spencer I thought it was cute. Key is to never assume something doesn’t go together. Sometimes just trying something on makes you change your mind!

spencers-tiger-back-knit-cardigan

Seeing this sweater vest makes me want to just curl up in front of a fire and get all cozy. It looks super comfortable and the colors give it a little pazazz (not to mention the lion on the back). Everyone should get a big comfy sweater like this for those chillier days!

spencers-key-print-tie-bow-top-344x580

Preppy at it’s best. A cardigan with a bow belt addition is adorable, even without that shirt she added from under. Without it it’ll give off a simpler look, but with it the preppiness is on a whole other level.

pretty little liars fashion spencer troian belassario

I like to call this look boho chic. She has that bohemian look going on with her beaded necklace and hair band, however the look itself is polished and put together. This sheer top has proven to be useful to Spencer for she has been seen wearing it in another episode as well!

ASHLEY BENSON, TROIAN BELLISARIO

This is the exact coat I am looking for this Fall. Leather sleeves and a khaki or biege coat with a big collar. I love the zippers and leather sleeves are something we will see everywhere this upcoming season!

tumblr_lgl0k6Pi2y1qdf0hwo1_500

I am a sucker for this look. I love it’s elegance and simplicity of it. It is one of my favorites because the white shirt and nude shoes are perfectly combined with this sweet cardigan. Also her side braid is beautiful and it is something I want to do more often once my hair has grown a bit longer.

Spencer’s classy and simple style makes me want to go out and buy even more cardigans than I already own. Preppy doesn’t mean geeky and she is showing people why. If Spencer has taught me anything is that no matter what clothes you wear, the sexiest part of a woman is being smart (and to not trust anyone who signs their texts “A”).

Pretty Little Fashionista.

 tv-pretty-little-liars38

I have been lured into the world of Pretty Little Liars like so many others I know. At first I laughed at those who wasted their time watching this series, and now I seek these people out in order to discuss the intense and confusing storylines of this show. In others words: I am addicted. I can’t help it! It’s everything you think it’ll be: so-so acting, intense storylines, endless amounts of secrets and cute fashion. I obviously won’t be spoiling anything about the show on this post simply because the show is still running and it is on Netflix (if you have some time to spare and want to start a show, I suggest this one!). Never did I think I would get so engulfed by the lives of these teenagers, but here I am, 3 seasons later, countless hours down the drain and I can’t help but still ask myself: WHO IS A?!?!? (If you do watch the show then you know exactly what I mean).

One of my favorite characters of the show is the strong-willed, intelligent and tough Spencer Hastings (played by the beautiful Troian Bellisario). At first I perceived her as the simpler one of the group, the “geek” I suppose. But as the episodes progressed I realized Spencer has so much to offer, and might I add probably the best actress on the show. Her wits and strong personality make it almost impossible to not like her, and to top it off, she has my favorite wardrobe of the show. Her family is extremely wealthy and therefore for the most part, she dresses the part of an upper class teenage girl (keep in mind that on tv, teenagers do not dress like we used to). More towards the preppy side she has a lot of pieces in her wardrobe I would love to try on myself. Let’s see what fashion secrets Spencer has stashed in her closet.

99c8c74c24e72e9004ff4804d0b86777

I don’t know if I would’ve worn this to high school, but these girls don’t necessarily dress like your typical high school girls. Spencer’s look in this scene is perfect for a beautiful Fall day. I would easily wear this to work. This plaid skirt and white shirt, finished off with a brown blazer is just what the season calls for.

66378cef2294e3ac_spencer

This cream sweater with black suede elbow patches is really sweet and can be worn a lot. It loosk cozy and comfortable without being frumpy.

spencers-green-coat-530x580

Is there nothing this girl can’t pull off? I absolutely love this jacket. The tone of green goes extremely well with her hair color (btw, anyone else notice how she has perfected the wave?), and the fact that it ties at the waist makes it very feminine.

s02e25-spencers-grey-red-dress-500x281

Who doesn’t need a basic colorblock dress? I know I do. It’s versatile, simple but not boring. Spices it up by using more than one color, and this particular dress has a cute neck detailaing.

fe5f55c7069410c4c0961674f0984240

The color palette of this outfit is one of my favorites: earth tones. Beige and olive green are an amazing combination and add on a rich brown leather bag, you simply cannot go wrong for this chillier season!

spencer-hastings-cape-480x360

This is probably one of my favorite Spencer looks. This jacket is beautiful with the big gold buttons and the way the sleeves are large and open. Her black tights and high black boots add onto the mysteriousness of the look and her smokey eyes are the perfect final touch.

Stay tuned for Wednesday’s post as we continue to riffle through Spencer’s closet and uncover some more of her fashion secrets.

500 Days of Fashion. Part 2.

vlcsnap-2010-01-11-02h00m11s81

500 Days Of Summer is a movie about how sometimes relationships don’t work, no matter how much you want them to. It demonstrates the reality of love, sadness, heartache and anger. It brings you along for an entertaining ride and leaves you with a sense of hope. Hope that no matter how sad you are at one pt, there is a rainbow behind that storm somewhere.

Along with all the entertaining aspects of this movie, the fashion is also something that caught  my eye (of Summer‘s and Tom‘s) and I wanted to take a further look into Summer’s 60’s inspired wardrobe.

5DOS-00336-252x580

As I mentioned in my previous post, a common theme in this movie in Summer’s wardrobe is the color blue. Most of her outfits have this color in them and the different tones go perfectly on her skin tone.

This is another great example of how you can dress for work without looking very corporate. This sweet ruffled short sleeve top and denim skirt is perfect for around the office, or grabbing a coffee somewhere.

blue-dress-from-ikea-455x580

Who thought shopping in IKEA could be so fun? Tom and Summer took the IKEA experience to a whole other level when they made themselves at home in the store. I can understand why Tom would be so smitten over this girl when she’s got such a fun personality and cute dresses like this baby blue one! This type of collar is particularly very popular lately in short dresses.

500dayssummer-3-386x580

She wears this white sleeveless top in more than one occasion in this movie. The first time it is with high waisted pants, and the second time is with this colorful flowy skirt. Tops like these can be very versatile and are useful to have in your wardrobe!

500dayssummer

I am almost certain I have a picture of my mom from the 70s wearing this exact same outfit. T-shirt tucked into high waisted shorts and stockings was all the craze back then, and it still is now. It can be worn on many body types and is a nice alternative to just wearing plain jeans!

blue-check-cardigan-500-days-of-summer-386x580

Summer is clearly a fan of the school girl look because this is her second outfit of the movie that portrays this style. What I love is the teal argyle sweater vest. It’s practical and kicks any boring cardigans butt!

blue-dress-500-days-summer-411x580

Denim has many different variations and this cute short sleeve dress shows us why we should probably wear more of them! She decided to wear it with a pattern belt which I find very nice, but I also love denim with anything tan coloured. Therefore a thin tan belt along with matching tan flats would be a great ensemble and something I would definitely be seen wearing!

500-days-of-summer-blue-wedding-dress

Tom may have thought he was over Summer but when he saw her in this beautiful grey-blue dress his heart couldn’t help but melt a little. The neckline is a beautiful criss-cross and the bow detailing at the waist is a sweet touch.

I love movies that portray real life, and 500 Days Of Summer is one of them. It’s subtle details and real-life emotions draw you in and the great fashion is a simple bonus.

500 Days of Fashion.

               500-Days-of-Summer-Viral

One of my favorite movies of all time is hands down: 500 Days Of Summer. If you haven’t seen it, I strongly recommend it. And if you write it off because you think of it as your typical chick flick, stop right there, because even my boyfriend (who I forced to watch it) liked it! Great acting, humor, amazing soundtrack….there’s literally nothing I hated about it. And if you think it is a love story you are wrong, because as the narrator says in the beginning: this is not a love story.

I see I have spiked your interest. Good! I am hoping after you read this post you go out and rent this movie (do people still rent movies?) or download it (more likely)! It’ll make you sad, happy, hopeful and peaceful all at once. You go through a roller coaster of emotions because it is at it’s core, relatable. You feel Tom‘s (played by the adorable Joseph Gordon-Levitt) pain and joy and you get chills from Summer‘s (played by Zooey Deschanel) cold demeanor.

Along with the complete adorableness of this movie, Summer’s style is sweet and feminine. A mixture of Mad Men looks and school girl, it may not be for everyone but there are definite tips and styles we can all take from her style and be inspired by. A very common theme in this movie which I am sure you will notice is the color blue. The color scheme in general is muted, even with Tom’s adorable fashion choices, but blue is something we see very often on Summer. It may be due to her big blue eyes, or just because they wanted to keep a similar color pattern throughout the entire movie. Whatever the reason is, it works and I enjoyed every look of this movie! Time to open up Summer’s wardrobe and see what she wore throughout this delightful film.

orange-skirt-bicycle-500-days-of-summer-430x580

This is a look I am often seen in in the summertime: a flowy skirt (sinched at the waist) and a simple tank top. It’s feminine and most importantly, comfortable. One time while wearing this I added a ribbon in my hair and a short cardigan. It felt like I was straight out of the movie “Grease“. May have been a little overkill.

5DOS-00287-330x580

Highwaisted pants have become more and more apparent in today’s fashion and it’s because they can offer a modern spin on an old fashioned style. They ooze sophistication and flatter many different body types.

rd0538

Having gone to a private highschool myself I can relate to this look very well. There are definitely different variations of this look (i.e. promiscuous Britney Spears) but this is a way to pull it off without being inappropriate. All you need is a plain white shirt, with a sweater (sleeves or no sleeves are fine) and a skirt that falls at the knees. A+ for you Summer!

500_days_of_summer_2

Whoever said vests were out of style is wrong, and Summer proves why. A vest can be an unique addition to a look. Without the vest this navy top and grey pants would’ve been a great ensemble, but the vest adds a bit more personality.

 500dayssummer-4-386x580

Another sweet example of a Summer look (and in blue, no surprise there). The detailing of this dress differentiates it from a typical dress, and the navy bow  in the hair adds the perfect touch.

-500-Days-of-Summer-500-days-of-summer-15955357-1024-683

Navy and green are the color palettes rare couple. They go so well together and yet you rarely see someone pair a nice navy skirt or pants, with a green top. Summer did this perfectly, and added a neutral jacket to the mix to refrain from having an outfit that is too busy.

butterfly-pin-500-days-summer-439x580

I have said it before that a simple white shirt is a must in every person’s closet, however if you are the type to find this look boring, you can do what Summer did and add a broach or clip, like her Butterfly one! Adds just the right amount of personality to a rather simple outfit (and might I add, the butterfly is blue). Besides who said earrings and necklaces are the only thing you can put on to spruce up your look?

Stay tuned for the continuation of this post on Wednesday as we rummage through Summer’s closet some more. If I haven’t convinced you yet to watch this movie, maybe my favorite scene will get you to watch it! How could it not?! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tJoIaXZ0rw

Robin Scherbatsky’s got style, eh! Part 2.

Robin-how-i-met-your-mother-32090359-1280-720

Robin Scherbatsky (played by Cobie Smuldersfrom How I Met Your Mother is just a regular woman like the rest of us. Trying to make it in the business world, has her share of heartaches, and tries to show she is tough when all she does is care. Although a true Canadian through and through, living in NYC she has adapated a great sense of style and honestly, I wish I had her wardrobe. Time to continue at riffling through Robin’s fantastic closet.

robins-green-longsleeve-dress-600x352

This green and black dress  and black high boots is the perfect look for Fall. It’s work appropriate but is still great for a night out for supper. You can even add thin black stockings to give it a more Fall/Winter look.

zap-photo-tv-fashion-himym-smulders-3

Animal print can be seen everywhere lately and this is a great exmaple of an animal print dress that doesn’t look like something Snooki from the Jersey Shore would wear. It’s classy and elegant and the deep colors make the animal print stand out just enough. The strappy sandal goes along with the femininity of the dress.

robins-white-cutout-top-grey-blazer

I absolutely love how this look turned out. The white shirt from under with the unique neck detailing, and the light grey blazer is soft yet so professional all at once.

robins-black-leather-shearling-jacket

With Fall right around the corner I am already keeping my eyes peeled for a great jacket. This is something I would love to own. A leather jacket with sheep fur on the inside. It is warm and very stylish. Gives your outfits an edgier look without going the biker leather jacket route.

s07e23-robins-white-bird-blouse-red-boots1

The color of her boots is something we rarely see. Usually all you see is the typical black and brown, but these burgundy boots are making me rethink my Fall boot choices. The whole look is adorable and can be worn for many different occasions. These pattern blouses are always handy and will never go out of style!

cobie-smulders-and-alc-avery-pants-in-electric-blue-gallery

This is one of my favorite Robin looks. It is relatively simple, but I love the colorblocking done for this ensemble. The simple white and black combo is broken with these vibrant blue capris. And the pointy black stilettos make the entire look very modern.

bcbg-maxazria-black-faux-leather-paneled-crewneck-dress-and-how-i-met-your-mother-gallery

Leather, is there anything better? (I attempted to rhyme just now). A shirt that combines  leather and fabric is a great way to introduce leather into your outfit without the classic leather pants (which not everyone can pull off-very few in fact). Black on black is one of my favorite looks because it allows you to play up yout makeup and accessories.

s01e21-robins-purple-blouse-leather-jacket-500x295

As I mentioned animal print is all the rage and Robin’s snakeskin blouse is really nice. Makes a typical work outfit not at all boring, and the matching color palette of the bag is a nice touch to tie in the whole look together.

robins-black-maxy-dress-black-fur-jacket

What is so great about this dress is, well, everything. This drop dead gorgeous red gown with a plunging neckline is unforgettable and the black coat with fur colar is the perfect addition for a chilly New York evening.

How I Met Your Mother is a great show that is filled with laughter and love. Robin’s great sense of style is just a bonus to every episode. It is hard to choose which look of Robin’s is the best, but I think any fan would agree that Robin Sparkle’s outfits were the winners. Now that we’ve gone through Robin’s wardrobe, let’s go to the mall (as Miss.Sparkle would say)! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IY_bhVSGKEg

Robin Scherbatsky’s got style, eh!

 Dec2811_HIMYM1_biggy

I am Canadian and I am damn proud of it! Robin Scherbatsky (played by Cobie Smulders) from How I Met Your Mother is a Canadian as well and is very proud of her roots, although Barney Stinson (played by Neil Patrick Harris) gives her a hard time about it. Robin is a journalist trying to make it as a newsanchor over the seasons, and her strong, stubborn and tough exterior is adored by many because we all know deep down inside she’s just a sappy girl.

She’s a great role model to girls and along with all her positive characteristics, she’s also got great style! From business casual to fancy occasions, her look is geared towards the comfortable looking fitted clothing, that isn’t too provocative but always sophisticated. She avoids too much clutter like a lot of jewerly, and she makes sure to keep her colors and pattern combinations to a minimal. Over the last 9 seasons she’s kept true to herself and has always maintained a simple style.Time to take a view at Ms.Scherbatsky’s wardrobe and see what she can teach us!

robins-beige-blazer-tan-back-white-lace-top

Robin being the working woman as she is, knows that blazers are the best way to balance out a nice modern outfit, with the professional wardrobe she needs to have. She is often spotted wearing a blazer and it always gives off a very put together look. Being a huge fan of blazers myself, it is one of the best investments you can make. And I’m not talking about your grandmother’s old church-going blazer. I am referring to a nice, well fitted, modern blazer. They can be worn for many different outfits and always spruce up your look (if you replace your cardigan by a blazer, your outfit immediately goes from cute to stylish). This soft look of Robin’s consists of a beige very angled blazer with a nice white shirt from under with a sweet necklaine detailing.

robins-blue-cap-sleeve-zip-dress

This purple cap sleeve fitted dress is very flattering and the bold black zipper detailing on the back adds a funky spin to it. I love her thin gold chain necklace. Comes to show just because you have a wide open neckline doesn’t mean you need to add a big necklace. Sometimes keeping the chest bare is sexier and more feminine.

robins-black-lace-top

For those who think blazers are only for work, here is proof that a blazer can and should be worn on a night out! This blazer look is evening appropriate with the sexy black lace shirt from under and the black blazer adds the dark mysteriousness to it all.

equipment-annabelle-silk-shirt-and-how-i-met-your-mother-gallery

Patterns are all the craze as of late and in this scene Robin takes the nautical theme to work! Her navy anchor blouse paired with grey pants is a great work outfit, while keeping it fun.

robins-black-sheer-dress

A little black dress doesn’t have to be boring! This sheer top and sweetheart cut dress is great for many different occasions. As Robin did, important to remember to not add a necklace to this type of neckline.

cobie-smulders-and-helmut-lang-pixel-suiting-blazer-gallery

Another great example of how a blazer can be fun. I love the matching color of burgandy shirt to burgandy blazer. The pattern of the shirt breaks up the look without adding another color.

himym-s07e10-robins-green-dress-441x580

This is one of my all-time favorite Robin dresses. This stunning low-v olive dress with black belt is absolutely beautiful. The color alone I find to be one of the most universally flattering colors. Brunettes, blondes and redheads, as well as light and dark skinned can be seen wearing this color and it would look nothing but spectacular on them. I also love the draped detailing on the lower half of the dress.     robin-stripes

Lastly, if you are a fan of the show, you may notice a common theme in Robin’s wardrobe: she loves stripes (as do I)! This character is often seen in stripes when she is dressed more casually. From thicker to thinner stripes, she’s sported them all and shows how versatile this pattern can be. If you want to learn more about the endless options of this pattern take a look at my post “Color me Striped”.

Stay tuned for Wednesday’s post where we keep on rummaging through Robin’s wardrobe! We’ve already seen she has worn it all, even this bikini bod t-shirt. Ted couldn’t keep his eyes off of her!

How I Met Your Mother, Season Two

Marilyn Monroe is Hollywood Glam. Part 2.

2462010992_9a7ba77fb6

Marilyn Monroe was a beautiful, free-spirited woman who seemed sure of who she was and what she wanted. A style icon and role model to many, she made sure her legacy would live on and remained an influential fashion idol to many (including me). Old Hollywood glamour is one of my favorite looks, especially for special events, and Marilyn did it best.

The women of that era knew how to look like put-together ladies and looking sloppy was never an option. Whether you were primmed and proper for a ball, or you were simply going out for supper, choosing the right and most flattering outfit was always a must. And most important, feeling good in your skin is what brought your outfit from nice to remarkable. Let’s take a look at the continuation of how Marilyn made her looks as memorable as they were.

MarilynOrange2

For those who say you can’t do orange for a fancy event, they clearly have’t seen Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, where Marilyn is wearing this stunning vibrant orange gown with diamond detailing.

The-Seven-Year-Itch-marilyn-monroe-14297522-700-541

One of my favorite Marilyn looks and a common outfit from that era is a matching shirt and pant combo with a belt sinched at the waist. It is professional, yet feminine all at once.

how_to_marry_a_millionaire_5

This stunning burgundy gown can be easily seen on the red carpet today. It’s strap detailing is something we don’t see often enough and I love the matching belt. This color is extremely flattering on blondes as well as brunettes.

Marilyn-Monroe-Seven-Year-Itch-The-marilyn-monroe-30820113-1069-1600

A couple of weeks ago I discussed my love for polka dots, so it is no surprise to me that a style icon of mine would be spotted wearing this pattern! This dresses oozes of classic Hollywood glam where it ends at the knees and was fitted all the way through.

Marilyn Monroe

If someone doesn’t recognize this scene it is because they grew up in a cave. This is, hands down, the scene Marilyn Monroe is known best for. In The Seven Year Itch, Marilyn’s famous halter white dress blows up as she walks on top of an air vent. I don’t know how many times I’ve used the expression “I was walking down the street and almost pulled a Marilyn Monroe”, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. This look has been mimicked for Halloween a thousand times over, but what stands out most is that Marilyn shows that a white dress and shoes is a look that stands out and is sophisticated in so many ways (minus the skirt blowing up in the air).

If old Hollywood glamour is a look you would like to mimic, I discovered a brand that oozes of this era. It is called: Stop Staring ttp://www.stopstaringclothing.com/sunshop/. The dresses are beautiful and affordable. I bought a Stop Staring dress from the boutique 1861 http://1861.ca/ (one of my favorite Montreal boutiques) that holds many different brand names. I found this blush dress which I immediately fell in love with. It had the option of a halter strap but I kept it as a strapless, and I added the belt to give a little bling to it. I channelled my inner Monroe that evening. Will you do the same at your next event?

Marilyn Monroe is Hollywood Glam.

One of the biggest and most memorable style icons of this lifetime is the one, the only, Marilyn Monroe. Although she left this world way before her time, she left a mark and will be forever remembered as a beautiful, strong and charming woman who had a fashion sense that still resonates with many today. I know in terms of fashion I am often inspired by the looks of her time and we see an increase of this era’s style being mimicked.

Not only is she probably one of the most quoted icons out there, but without her even knowing, she has become an idol to those who want to promote a healthy body image. Unlike most celebrities today, Marilyn had a healthy body weight and embraced her curves to the fullest. Young girls should remember how worshiped this woman was, despite the fact that she wasn’t a size 2.

From Some Like It Hot, to Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and from How to Marry a Millionaire to The Seven Year Itch, Marilyn Monroe sported gorgeous gowns and looks that have caught my eye over the years. It fascinates me that even after 60 years, a movie’s fashion can still be so influential. Simply comes to show, make a timeless movie and timeless looks will follow. Time to go down memory lane and visit some of Marilyn Monroe’s most classic looks from the big screen.

Whether Marilyn was dressed up or down, she knew it was important to always look put together. With her thin deep lilac turtleneck, she takes this look from simple to glamed up with the vibrant color and her gold earrings and matching solid gold bracelet.

With summer coming to an end, I am sad to say I barely sported any baithing suits this season with this unpredictable weather. However, doesn’t mean I didn’t think about which type of baithing suits I wanted. In the last 5 years I have grown deeply in love with one piece baithing suits, and this deep orange strapless suit is no exception.

Another look that can be easily worn 60 years later. This violet/navy dress with severe shoulders and straight neckline gives off an haute couture look, all the while looking like a lady. This dress doesn’t need much more detailing because the color alone lets it stand out enough.

This fiery red dress puts JLO’S plunging dress to shame! Marilyn sported this gown with confidence, despite the fact that it had a plunging v neckline and a slit on the leg that leaves nothing much left for the imagination.

Who said colorblocking was a recent trend? Miss.Monroe shows us that in 1953 she colorblocked and she did it oh-so-well. This green/lilac/navy combo is something you rarely see, but it works really well!

This sweet white dress with unique criss-cross neckline is something I would love to wear today. It’s feminine and the fact that it sinches at the waist is a very flaterring look for girls with smaller waists and bigger hips, like Marilyn had. Also, her standard pop of red lips takes the possible daytime look to night.

This fuscia pink halter, back bow-tie dress with matching pink satin gloves is probably one of her most memorable looks. Adding diamond bracelets on top of the gloves just accentuated how much glam she really loved. Madonna channelled Miss Monroe’s spirit for the Material Girl video while reenactiing this entire scene. Made this dress even more popular than it already was!

Stay tuned for Wednesday’s post on the continuation of Marilyn Monroe’s memorable looks from her movies. Also, I will clue you in on where you can find some very Marilyn-inspired dresses for your upcoming events!
